Organic evolution, or something...

The fleets been busy, even if the blog hasn't been...

Another Mach2 should be getting wet soon at Grafham, whilst the rest of the fleet have been either upgrading sails, foils or whole boats.  Changing or upgrading the kit seems quite easy, the problem seems to be what should you buy...

However the difficult bit to upgrade is still the pilot (in my opinion!).  This has been partially resolved though by our own willing & helpful fleet member Matt who's made these excellent moth "how-to" videos showing all the secrets of foiling gybes and tacks... now I just need the time/practice to make it look so simple!

Foiling Tacks-

Taking upgrades and changes to the next level though is another fleet member James.
Having been inspired by the moth bug, he's starting his own home build, should be interesting to follow, good luck!

Quiet blog, busy fleet...

Blogs been a bit quiet, but luckily the fleet hasn't.

Over the last year the fleet has changed and grown a fair bit.  We now have 10 foilers (3x Mach2's, 3x Ninja's, 2x Prowler's, 1x Bladerider & 1x Hungry Tiger) + a single lowrider.

Some of the fleet are have been putting the hours in over the cold winter months, both on the water and in the workshops(!) prepping boats & techniques to gain that extra 10%

With the UK Nationals at HISC 16-17th July, acting as a warm-up event for the Worlds 19-25th July at HISC these events will be the perfect practice for the moth Inlands at GWSC 27-28th Sept :o)

Pre-event entry for the worlds have already passed the 100 mark, so what are you waiting for? Isn't it time you joined the moth fleet?

Spring 2013... really?

I had to double check the calendar, but apparently it is March.
But with 1" of snow and -1deg C it was never going to get unboxed this weekend...

Boatless...

The usual emails floated around towards the weekend to discover who would break the winter hibernation.  It sounded like a few were keen, but I couldn't play as presently boatless.

Looks like they would have had good weather, but the early morning club twitter feed reporting ice spotting's sounded slightly scary.  Thankfully, my boatless scenario prevented me from having to dodgy any icebergs the safety boats had missed!

My shiny new toy should arrive soon, so I managed to entertain my sailing fix by watching the first few races of the 2013 JJ Giltinan 18' skiff championship (www.18footerstv.com) I've often watch the footage these guys make, their knowledge and enthusiasm is obvious and just shows what can be done by; a few guys, a rib and a camcorder.  Makes some of the more commercial events look very dull in comparison, or is that just the boats...

They are even running a special JJ 'Pick the Podium' © which looks fun, I might try entering... :o)

Opposite side of the world

Tried to go racing yesterday, but was greated by this...

Luckily, some of the fleet went out on Saturday, when there was some wind and visibility.

So what should a grounded mothie do?
Virtual mothing of course and grab a quick catchup of the AUS Moth Nationals, which has slightly more suitable weather than here!
