How to be 10%... or 12% faster?

Another grey, wet and cold sunday... sounds like a good excuse to visit the 2012 RYA Volvo Dinghy Show.

As promised there was an enthusiastic band of mothies manning the stand offering advice and info on everything mothie.  I gleemd some useful tips, so thanks James, Mike & Simon for your time.

Now I just need to put it all into practice and be 10% quicker this season...

New recuit

The fleet has expanded and Diederik has joined us with a shiney new toy.  It seems a pattern is starting to emerge as another Pro-Vela experience with Alan has seen the fleet grow.

After a suitably mothie related timescale had elapsed for prep'ing and bimbling the new toy, this weekend saw the first outing and straight up foiling... OK, there wasnt much wind and Diederik end up at the far side of the lake before getting a suitable puff, but in true SA style "pictures or it didnt happen" then the below should cover it...

Making a splash

A lot has been happening to the fleet recently. Obviously all my splashing around whilst learning hasn't put too many potential new mothies off! In recent months Phil has joined in and can be seen flying past his ex laser sailors. Whilst the latest recruit Julia loved the Pro-Vela mothing experience so much she brought a boat home with her! That's got to be a first, thanks Alan!

So the pilots list is slowly expanding, with other Grafham club members enquiring about details after most outings, so potentially some more candidates if suitable boats and budgets align!

For anyone who has viewed the present pilots list, they will note a slight cheat... Well it's our blog, our rules and if we want an honorary member we can! To some readers of this blog Simon will be well known and maybe a good friend. To those outside the mothosphere he could be considered a legend of the class, or should that be grandad of the class?!? Anyway, he's abandoning Blighty and heading off to sunnier shores with his Mach2 in tow... The Grafham fleet will survive his departure, but I'm not sure the club canteen's breakfast profits will ever recover!
